The Root of Panic Attacks and How to Overcome Them

Panic attacks are one of the devil’s most disturbing strategies to devour God’s people.

I have experienced two panic attacks in my life. They were so terribly overwhelming.  The circumstances surrounding both of them were similar.  I was in extremely stressful life situations.  The enemy knew exactly how to use fear to overwhelm me in order to make paralyze me from moving forward.

The enemy used amplified lies to overcome me and I felt like I was in a prison that could not be escaped from.  It was like my mind knew they weren’t true but my heart was in such fear logic would not work to extinguish the fiery darts.

The lies in both of my panic attacks were essentially the same.  “There is no escape from this.  Nothing will ever change.  There is no hope for you.”

You see the devil waited for the ripe situation in my life to unload a dump truck of lies on me.  It was a truck load of fear that felt very real.

1 Peter 5:8 ‘Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.’

The enemy devoured me with His lies.  For a few hours anyway.  I cried out to the Lord and He saved me.  It was a little different path to deliverance each time but the truth of the Lord poked through my very dark storm and my logical mind returned to keep me from falling back into the storm.

The other day a friend was in a terrible panic attack and I used the things that I had learned from my own to help her out of her storm.  I want to share them with you – so it might help you if the enemy tries to overwhelm you in a prison of fear.

Don’t do it alone.  Don’t let shame keep you from asking.  Ask others for prayer support!

Remember even though it feels very real – it is not!  You have authority over ALL of the works of the devil.  Take authority over fear!  And take authority over insanity!  They do not have a right to attack you.  “

In the name of Jesus I take authority over the spirit of fear and the spirit of insanity.  I plead the blood of Jesus over myself and I command you to go to the feet of Jesus!”

When you worship the Lord you tie the hands of the devil.  He HATES worship.  You poke the devil in the eye when you worship the Lord in the midst of an attack.  Use the weapon of worship until the attack passes.

(Read more about using Worship in warfare here.)

There is always a root lie that the devil use in a panic attack.  With me, the lie was there is no hope.  It came from a traumatic event in my childhood that made me feel powerless.  With my friend, the lie was that there was too much to do and she was incapable of doing it so she felt like she was in a prison and there was no way out.  After some prayer, we found that the root of her lie came from a teacher in elementary school who told her she would never amount to anything and that she was incapable of learning.

Ask the Holy Spirit to show you the root of the lie that the enemy is using.  Make sure the enemy doesn’t trip you up by making you cut off a branch.  The goal is to get to the root and pull out the lie.

My friend kept saying, “It’s my fault.  I’m the one who tells myself I’m not good enough.”  But I knew that wasn’t true.  Someone had to plant that lie in her.  Her parents were loving and caring people – so I knew it wouldn’t have come from them.  We just kept praying until we had peace when the Holy Spirit showed her that it was her fourth grade teacher and she could hear the lie coming from her.

Once you find the root lie – use the following emotional healing tool to pull it out:

Uprooting LIES

Matthew 15:13

He replied, "Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by the roots.

1) When you find the lie - renounce the lie out loud:  I renounce the lie that ________.

For example: “I renounce the lie that You Father God are cold and distant.”

2) Then ask:  Father God what is Your truth? (Be still and listen quietly for the still small voice of the Lord.)

3) When you hear the truth from the Holy Spirit - Declare the truth out loud.

For example:  I declare the truth that You love me and want to hold me like a father holds his child.

4) RECORD this conversation on paper so you can go back and review it later.  After getting a revelation of the truth we MUST go back and begin renewing our minds with this new truth!

This kind of praying loosens the enemy away from you – so it is important to seal up any kind of prayers.

Is There Something Blocking Your Blessings?

When I was the Director of Worship at a church I was in charge of overhead projector and the transparencies that helped the congregation lift their heads out of the hymnal and read the songs on the screen.  (Who remembers that?  Let’s hear it for the 90s!)

One of my pastors came to me and said, “Do you have the copyright, the author and all that the licensing agents require for you to have on your overheads?”  My response was no.  And my greasy grace mindset thought to itself who really cares anyway?

I had learned to get God’s opinion about everything before I simply went with my own greasy grace opinion.  So I processed what my pastor had said before the Lord.  I took my pastor’s admonishment before the Lord and said “God is this something that is really necessary?”

The Lord very gently and lovingly revealed to me that in our agreement with the licensing agency we had agreed to these terms.  I was breaking the agreement we signed every year by not following through with my part by giving credit to the authors and their copyrights.

The Lord was so sweet when He spoke to my heart and said, “I want to bless you, and by not keeping your word according to this agreement blocks my blessing.  I need for you to follow through with your words and I will take you to a higher level.  Your pastor’s admonishment was really Me, wanting to bring you greater blessing.”

A BIG eye opener to me!

Galatians 6:7-9 … A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

I was sowing to please my flesh not to please the Spirit when it came to following through on the details.  God wanted to bring me a harvest – but I could not receive a harvest because I was not keeping my word to the licensing company.

It took A LOT of time and effort but we came into compliance with what was required and it felt good to be right with the Lord!

Not keeping your word – blocks God’s blessings.

One time the Lord had me go to a pastor with a prophetic word about a blessing that He wanted to bring the church.  But because the church was not following through on a particular promise they had made to God.  He could not bring the blessing He wanted to give them.

The pastor was incredibly mature about my admonishment and was not offended but said “Thank you, I will take your words before the Lord with my prayer team.”  A few weeks later, he shared with me that the prayer team DID take it to the Lord and confirmed what I had warned him about.  They indeed were not keeping their word to the Lord about a specific aspect in the church and they repented from that day.

I am happy to say that church is flourishing because of their mature way of handling the word and getting God’s opinion on it, then making the shift happen.

Sometimes our blessings or harvests are blocked because of generational curses.
This happened during the reign of David.  A famine had been in Israel for three years.  God was unable to bring blessing or a good harvest.

2 Samuel 21:1  During the reign of David, there was a famine for three successive years; so David sought the face of the LORD. The LORD said, “It is on account of Saul and his blood-stained house; it is because he put the Gibeonites to death.”

So David had to make atonement for his predecessor.  It was a rather gruesome atonement as a sacrifice of Saul’s descendants was necessary.  But our atonement was rather gruesome too.  When Jesus died on the cross, he atoned for our sins.  We no longer have to sacrifice to make up for generational sins.  We are so fortunate to call upon the blood of Jesus to dismantle the sins of past generations.

If there are areas of your life that you are experiencing a famine.  If there are areas that seem to not be flowing as well as they used to, or maybe there seems to be a “block” in the blessings of the Lord, begin to seek the face of the Lord as David did.  Ask WHY there is famine or a lack of blessing?

If you cheat the government of your taxes, God cannot bless you.  If you do not keep in line with copyright regulations, God cannot bless you.  If you are not honest in your business dealings, God cannot bless you.  If you have a loose tongue and gossip about others, God cannot bless you.  If you have hate in your heart, if you do not keep your word, if you have not completely obeyed the Lord – all of these things block the blessing of the Lord.

God may show you that it is your own sin, or lack of keeping your word.  Then ask Him for forgiveness, apply the blood of Jesus to the sin and repent and turn back to Him.  If He shows you there are generational sins in the way – use THIS prayer to use the atoning blood of Jesus to break it off.

God doesn’t WANT to see your blessings blocked from you. He is not a mean God.  It is simply the way the Kingdom is set up.  It is a sowing and reaping Kingdom.

Hosea 10:12 Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and showers his righteousness on you.

America IS Great! ...but We Are Not the Favorite

The sin of mastery is the root of bullying, racism, slavery, misogyny, feminism and nationalism.  Mastery occurs when someone considers themselves the Master of another.  One race considers themselves better than another, a gender considers themselves better than another, or a nation considers themselves better than another nation.

The interesting part of the sin of mastery is that it comes about because of insecurity in the identity of the person considering themselves the Master.  Yes, pride can also be the reason, but for the most part – you’ll find that it begins with insecurity and the need to be in control is so great that one feels they must MASTER another to feel safe.

A person who is the Master basically sits on a throne of another person’s life and attempts to control their fate.  Bullies attempt to control the fate of their victims.  One race feels they are better than another and demands to be served by other races.  Slave masters dictate the lives of their slaves. Misogynists attempt to keep women under glass ceilings.  Feminists attempt to emasculate men.  One nation attempts to control another.

America has been guilty of considering itself the Master of the world.  There are a variety of reasons that we feel that we are the Answer and have a right to sit on the world’s throne.  We have been extremely blessed financially and militarily.

Some have wanted to use our nation’s influence in benevolent ways.  Others have tried to use it for selfish reasons of greed and control.  Unfortunately when we decide that because we are the “rich” sibling of the world and we control and manipulate using that influence whether we are being benevolent OR being the dictator… we are guilty of the sin of mastery.

God loves America. But we are no better than other countries.  God adores each and every nation.  He desires that every nation will become a sheep nation and serve the One who created them.  There is a throne in each country that Jesus bought and paid for with His blood.  He deserves the throne of each nation for He is the King of Kings.  But one nation taking the throne of another nation is not what God expects from the “rich” sibling.

Ditch #1:  America the Rich
Sometimes we take the throne because we see other nations hurting and we want to do all that we can to help.  There is a time and a purpose for this kind of help… however, when we help other countries by simply pouring out money and not helping them learn to care for themselves we create a co-dependent triangle.  Instead of nations learning to help themselves, they look to America to be their savior.  This creates systemic poverty… and we are forced to take a throne we were never meant to inhabit.  We can help financially and with aid, but it should never become a co-dependent relationship.

We cannot pour money through a funnel into a nation without setting some boundaries.  It is unhealthy.  It is UNSANCTIFIED MERCY.  We must find a way to help other nations get back on their feet without creating dependents.  Nations need to depend on Jesus, the Provider.  Not America, the Benefactor.

Ditch #2 - America the Policeman
Sometimes we take the throne because we see other nations fighting, or we see evil rising up and feel the need to intervene.  We have every right to defend ourselves in war.  The government is charged with protecting its people in Romans 13.  (Rulers hold terror… for those who do wrong.)  The problem comes when we take the throne as the policeman of the world.  We become the Master because we have military might and agility.

God has not called our nation to be the mediator of the world.  That would be like having one sibling of the family always having the right to intervene in sibling squabbles.  Sometimes it is simply none of our business.

There are certainly times to intervene.  But our “litmus” test for when we step into a conflict to mediate should be -- have our national boundaries been encroached?  Or is one of our friends (i.e. Israel) asking for help?

In this way we maintain a healthy outlook and we do not go beyond proper boundaries set forth for us by the One who sits on the throne.  Jesus is the mediator, not America.

America HAS been guilty of the sin of Nationalism.  The answer to getting out of the ditch ofhyper-grace (unsanctified mercy) and the ditch of hyper-truth (policeman of theworld) is that we stop considering ourselves the Master.  America must step down off of the throne as "The Answer to the world's problems" and begin to preach the Gospel of Jesus and how He IS THE ANSWER.

America is great!  But we are not the favorite...

Steps to Wholeness:
Please pray this prayer of repentance.

Father God please forgive America for considering ourselves the Master of other nations.  Forgive America for thinking we are better than others.  Forgive us for taking the throne that only belongs to You.  We pray for the countries that we have hindered with our unsanctified mercy.  Would You please restore them and break off the co-dependency we caused in their hearts?  Would You also restore the nations who have suffered because we took the throne as the policeman?  We ask You to restore these nations and their ability to stand up for themselves.

We pray You would restore all of the nations that we caused to stumble because we took Your place on the throne.  Please restore to our leaders wisdom to walk on the Path of Life and not repeat the sin of Nationalism.  We thank You for the blood of Jesus that cleanses and washes away our guilt.  We thank You for GRACE that empowers us to say NO to sin!  In Jesus name, AMEN.

Leah Was Unloved: Finding Peace in God Not Man

We read about Jacob and his two wives Leah and Rachel in Genesis 29 and 30.  Leah desperately wanted her husband Jacob to love her.  But Jacob loved her sister Rachel.

Leah was unloved.

After Leah’s father tricked Jacob into marrying her, she found herself caught up in a circle of deceit, jealousy, victimhood and strife.  Leah had to compete for her husband’s affections.  Her younger sister was more beautiful and she captivated Jacob.  Leah always had to live in the shadow of her younger sister.

Being unloved is probably the most difficult situation to find yourself in.  Being loved gives a person value and identity.   Leah’s identity was the “the ugly sister.”  She was valued so little by her father that he had to use trickery to marry her off.

Leah was probably quite willing to go along with her father’s plan of trickery.  She probably thought she could make Jacob love her eventually.  But on day one of their marriage, it was clear that she still had no value as Jacob made a deal to secure her sister Rachel for marriage the following week.

How devastating for Leah to think she finally had what she wanted in Jacob, only to be scorned the next day by not being good enough.

Leah became the victim – even though she agreed with the plan, Leah was now in desperate need of a savior.

The Lord had compassion on Leah and began to bless her with children.  But you can see where Leah’s focus was as she named each of her children out of her desire to be loved by Jacob.

Genesis 29:31-34

When the LORD saw that Leah was not loved, he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren. Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, for she said, "It is because the LORD has seen my misery. Surely my husband will love me now." She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said, "Because the LORD heard that I am not loved, he gave me this one too." So she named him Simeon. Again she conceived, and when she gave birth to a son she said, "Now at last my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons." So he was named Levi.

You can see that Leah’s desire during the birth of her first three sons were all focused on winning Jacob’s approval and love.  Leah had Jacob on a pedestal and put the desire for his love higher than her desire for God’s love.  She worshiped Jacob because she thought he could save her from being the victim and bring her peace.

When we turn to people or things to give us peace, we will ALWAYS be disappointed.  There is only One Person who has the power to bring us true peace.  The Lord is the only One who can restore value and identity to a person.  Idolatry of a person will only lead to heartache.

Leah finally stopped trying to get Jacob to love her when she had her fourth son.

Genesis 29:35 She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said, "This time I will praise the LORD." So she named him Judah. Then she stopped having children.

When she gave birth to the fourth one she named him Judah.  She turned her eyes to the Lord and instead of trying to gain Jacob’s approval she praised the Lord.  This is the point at which Leah got out of the ditch of being a victim.  She stepped down onto the Path of Life and said,

God’s love is enough for me so I will praise Him.

Leah was looking to Jacob to be her rescuer.  She was crying out to Jacob with each child she bore – “Please love me! Please rescue me!  Give me identity.  Give me value.”  Leah finally learned after four sons that all earthly RESCUERS will disappoint us.

There is only One person who can truly rescue us, that is the Lord.  He is the only one who can bring us true peace.  Our value and identity can only come from Him – otherwise we are bowing down to idols.

Jacob was an idol to Leah. She believed the lie that if only Jacob would love her, she would have peace because she would belong somewhere.  The truth is that she DID belong somewhere.  She belonged to God.  She was deeply loved and deeply valued simply because of who her Creator was.  God doesn’t make “ugly sisters.”  If Leah would have had her identity rooted in God before Jacob came to town, she probably would have stood up to her father when he hatched the plan to trick Jacob into marrying her.

A woman who has her identity and value in the Lord has no need to “catch” a husband to rescue her.

True peace comes from having relationships in the right priority.  If we are in a codependent relationship we are allowing someone other than God to be on the throne.  Putting God first in everything in our lives will bring us peace with God.  It will also create a foundation of peace in your heart that when the circumstances around us are in chaos, we will have the peace that surpasses understanding.

If you are a man or a woman who is looking to another person for their value, I invite you to rearrange your heart and bring down every idol.  It might seem scary at first but it is completely worth it.  When Jesus is on the throne of your heart you do not need another person’s approval.  And when Jesus is on the throne of your heart another person’s disapproval can never steal your peace again.

Steps to Wholeness:

Father God, please forgive me for having ________________ on the throne of my heart I know that only You can bring me true peace.  I invite you to sit on the throne of my heart and ask You to help me keep the relationships of my life in the right order.  In Jesus Name

Why America Needs to Forgive Hitler

A few months ago I watched a fascinating video about the deaths during World War 2.  (You can watch it here by clicking here.)  It was really eye opening to see a video graphic of how much damage WW2 caused across the globe.  Most of it came from the sin of one man.  Adolf Hitler.

The Holy Spirit spoke to me as I was watching this video and said, “Your nation is still recovering from World War 2.”

When the Lord spoke that to my heart – I was flooded with an understanding.  World War 2 was a traumatic event for the US.  The whole nation was affected by the suffering and strain of this war.

The United States lost almost 400,000 soldiers in World War 2.  Another 670,000 were wounded.

Generational lines were snuffed out when young men died and left no heirs.  Mothers and fathers were heartbroken at losing their children.  Children lost parents who fought in the war.  The home was disrupted when fathers went to war, leaving single parented homes.

When soldiers returned from war there was massive PTSD though they did not know how to deal with it.  They called PTSD -  Battle Fatigue.    Almost 1.4 million soldiers were treated for it.  Doctors didn’t have drugs to treat PTSD – so they turned to other treatments.  Electroshock therapy, induced comas and eventually lobotomies were used to “fix” battle fatigue.

Men were shamed for a lack of courage if they admitted to having battle fatigue.  So I am certain that a lot of men compartmentalized their pain.  We now know that if you do not deal with trauma and keep it locked away in a closet – it WILL negatively affect your personality.

I watched a video testimony of Chris DuPre whose dad returned from WW2 an angry man. (click here)  He would beat his son regularly.  God healed this man from his trauma and he was reconciled to his son as an adult.  The son had to endure 8 years of abuse because of the trauma that was inflicted by World War 2 – which again, was mostly because of the sin of one man.  Adolf Hitler.

Trauma can be passed down from generation to generation.  Just like the story of Mr. DuPre.  The sin of Adolf Hitler affected his life because of how it affected his father.

I know there are many stories of bitterness and depression and deep grief over the pain that was inflicted during WW2.  Soldiers had to numb themselves to the pain of war.  Stuffing down their emotions caused them to be emotionally absent from their families upon their return from war.

I heard another woman give a testimony who grew up in the 40s.  She said she knew people who were very angry with Hitler and hated and despised him.  “He was unforgiveable,” she said.

Then the Holy Spirit began to show me how Hitler enslaved his own nation with a spirit of witchcraft.

He first dehumanized the people that he was attempting to control.  He then twisted their thinking to see him as a savior.  He made them feel small and then he convinced them he was the only one who could save them.  Aided by the demonic spirit of the anti-Christ, Hitler deceived nations into bowing down to him as a false idol.  Everyone who served him followed him into a swirling pit of greed, selfishness and darkness that attempted to sweep over the world.

Hitler’s sins cost the entire world a deep price.   I don’t mean to discount any of the other countries who paid a higher price than the US – because a lot of them did.  But my message is to my sphere of influence - my fellow Americans who understand the power of the cross and its redemption.

Eva Kor (Holocaust Survivor)
I have been fascinated to see God build a puzzle in front of my eyes with so many different precepts that build upon the one before.  I know that when He spends so much time building an understanding in my heart that He is doing so because He wants me to take action.

Here is the conclusion that I have come to: The sin of Adolf Hitler put the Greatest Generation in spiritual bondage.  He stole part of our soul.  This sin has now affected three generations, through trauma in family structures, through bitterness and unforgiveness, and through the witchcraft spirit.

We have been praying the following prayer in our ministry with leadership and with those that we mentor.  We see fruit from it every time.  There seems to be something in our hearts after we pray this prayer that feels a little lighter and a little freer.  I invite you to pray it with us.

Lord we forgive Hitler for causing the United States so much trauma.  Please forgive us for our bitterness.  By faith, we sever influence from him and pray that whatever spiritual bondage that we are still under would be broken off.  We pray that any twisted thinking that is still in our country from Hitler’s sin would be untwisted and removed.  We pray it would be replaced with right thinking from the Holy Spirit according to the Kingdom of Heaven.  Then we pray that everything that Hitler stole from the US in WW2 would be returned to us in the name of Jesus.

Overcoming Religious Spirits

Many times on our journey up this mountain of life, there will be 'keepers of the veil' who do not want you to climb any further.  They are usually men and women who feel that they are doing the Lord's work by keeping the Lord's people in line.

I have certainly hit this veil in climbing up the mountain of maturity.  I have had men and women tell me to stop going the direction that I am going even though I KNEW God had put me on the path of Church leadership.  I have had people tell me that as a woman I must serve my husband’s call instead of having a call myself.  I also have been called unsubmissive more times than I can count… though the name callers have no idea about my true character.

A religious/conform spirit will want you to fit into their mold of what they think you should be. They require that you submit to rules that are outside of Scripture.  Do this. Don’t do that. Eat this. Don’t eat that. Watch this. Don’t watch that.  A Religious Spirit says, “Act like this and you will be accepted.”

It is similar to the religious leaders in Jesus' time.  They hated Him for all of the miracles and 'breaking' of religious rules.  Jesus did not fit into their paradigm of what they considered a religious leader to be.  So they tried to make Him conform to their model.

Sometimes a religious spirit will feel like a glass ceiling.  Sometimes it will feel like ropes around your hands and duct tape on your mouth.  If the Lord is calling you higher, you do not have to submit to the glass ceiling or the ropes and duct tape.

You must climb God's ladder, not man's ladder.  You must speak if the Lord is telling you to speak or you will be held accountable on Judgment Day.  (Ezekiel 3 and 4)  You must also do it in gentleness and love in the hopes that your Pharisee or Sadducee will come to repentance.  We must go around the religious legalism with grace,  it should NEVER be to “stick it to your Pharisee.”

We ARE called to submit to the authority that God has put over us.  We DO have to learn to submit to wrong leadership, just as David had to submit to Saul.  But there is a point at which God releases us from an earthly king, it is the point at which they try to kill us.

The Holy Spirit will release you from your Saul if that leader comes to the point of plundering you of your gifting or your call.  But just as David modeled, we must stay until the Holy Spirit releases us.  In the meantime, speak respectfully to the earthly king both in his presence and in public.  Remember the Lord is teaching you in the season under the religious spirit how not to be a poor king.

The only person that you must please is Jesus.  Continually ask God to judge you and ask Him to keep you on the Path of Life.

Recipe for overcoming a Religious Spirit

1.      Ask the Lord if there is a generational sin of religion in your family.  If so break the generational sin - use the tool HERE.

2.      Ask the Lord if you are guilty of having a religious spirit.  If so repent and ask God if you are believing a lie.  Renounce the lie.  Ask God for the truth. Declare the truth.

3.      Forgive the person/people who are coming against you with a religious spirit.  Ask God to bring them life. 1 John 5:16

4.      Take authority over a spirit of religion in Jesus Name.  Cast it at the feet of Jesus.  Declare a spirit of freedom.

5.      Ask the Lord if you are believing any lies that are affecting you from this spirit.  Renounce the lie.  Ask God for the truth.  Declare the truth.

Who Is Your Rescuer?

I have a plausible theory.   I think Adam and Eve were co-dependent.

Let me lay the ground work.  Codependency is relying on something or someone other than God as your source of value and identity.   Since the fall in the Garden we all have the innate desperate need of a savior.  We instinctively know that our souls are ‘naked’ and every human being has to deal with the same lies that the enemy told Eve.  You are not safe and you do not have value.  When Eve believed those lies she was duped into believing that we must ‘save’ ourselves.  This is why she ate from the tree that was forbidden. She believed the lie that God was not a trustworthy Savior.

Of course they realized their error right away.  For as soon as they had turned to ‘self-sufficiency’ as their savior, their world came tumbling down.  This beautiful paradise could no longer be their home.  The deep abiding peace they had lived in was slowly engulfed in fear and hardship.  God had a plan to redeem them but He would have to cut them off from the Garden of Eden so they would not partake of the Tree of Life and thereby living eternally in a state of fallenness.

Adam and Eve heard God’s plan for redemption when he cursed the serpent.  He said, “And I will put enmity (or animosity) between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”

The offspring that God was referring to foreshadowed Christ coming to earth as a human to be crucified and crushing sin and death in the process.  The fulfillment of His words didn’t happen for 4000 years.  That is a very LONG time to see a prophecy come forth!

Adam nor Eve could have conceived of the coming of Christ.  My theory, based on the fruit of the first family, is that they believed it would be their first born son, Cain (their offspring) that would crush the head of the serpent so that they could return to their beautiful Garden and the deep peacefulness of close fellowship with God.

I further believe that they raised their son Cain to also think that he was the savior.  You have seen families in your lifetime who have lifted up one of the family members to be the rescuer.  The star athlete gives the rest of the family an identity.  Or the eldest in a family is counted on for their protection or provision.  When we get our identity, protection or provision from anyone or anything but God we are using a false idol to be our savior.

I believe Adam and Eve put Cain on a pedestal as the savior, and Cain believed them. You can see his arrogance in his fruit.  In Genesis 4, God chastises Cain and rebukes him for not ‘doing what is right.’  God further warns Cain that sin is crouching at his door and must master it.  Cain did not humble himself after this, instead he lured his brother to a field and murdered him.

Instead of God being on the throne of Cain’s heart, Cain was sitting on the throne in his own heart and in the hearts of his parents.  This is the simple definition of co-dependency, someone or something other than God being on the throne.

OK – hard truth coming!

The Church in many ways is co-dependent.  We count on our pastor to rescue us.  Or we put a fantasy life picture on the throne and say “If I could only live that life, I would be rescued.”   We look to our spouse to give us value.  We look to food or money to comfort us.  These are all false idols on the thrones in our heart.  They will never satisfy.  They will only lead to heartache as it did in the first family.

Steps to Wholeness

If you recognize that you have a rescuer other than Jesus your first step to wholeness is simply confessing it to the Lord.  Maybe you ARE the person trying to be a rescuer, you also need to repent.

1) Confess to God that you have a false idol on the throne.

2) Command the idol (mountain) to be cast into the sea. (Sometimes I picture kicking the pedestal out from underneath the idol.)

3) Ask Jesus to sit on the throne of your heart in every area.

Keep Jesus on the throne by asking the Lord for conviction whenever you look to something or someone else to be your rescuer.

Generation X: Let's Address Your Trauma

Dear Generation X,
I know that you feel overlooked.  I know that you feel squeezed between two really loud generations.  I know that you have hit your head on the glass ceiling again and again.  I know that no one took the time to mentor you when you were young.  And even if someone did mentor you, they never actually handed you the keys.

The previous generation didn’t trust you enough to let you lead.  The younger generation doesn’t trust you enough to listen to what you have to say.  But I want you to know the Lord has a very special interest in you indeed.  For you have not been left out of His plan.

In fact, the Lord would say “X marks the spot!”

You are a treasured generation.  You are a Moses generation.  It might feel
like the first forty years of our lives have been wasted but it is not true.

In fact, God has been forging each of us into a sharpened sword to reveal us at exactly the right time.  You are such a treasured generation to the Lord that the enemy of your soul tried to wipe you out like he did to Moses’s generation.  Abortion was the tool the enemy used to kill one out of every three in Generation X.

Whether or not you know it, you feel the loss of 1/3 of your generation.  You are missing the voices of your Steve Jobs, Ronald Reagan and Susan B. Anthony. The distress of abortion along with the perpetual glass ceiling has traumatized your generation into paralysis.

The Lord called Moses out of his “season of paralysis” on the backside of the desert to bring the Israelites out of slavery and back to Him. (Exodus 3)  So God is calling Generation X out of its paralysis to be a prophet like Isaiah.  He's calling us to bring our nation back to Him.
Isaiah 49
…Before I was born the LORD called me (Gen X); from my birth he has made mention of my name.
2 He made my mouth like a sharpened sword, in the shadow of his hand he hid me; he made me into a polished arrow and concealed me in his quiver.
3 He said to me, "You are my servant, [Generation X], in whom I will display my splendor."
4 But I said, "I have labored to no purpose; I have spent my strength in vain and for nothing. Yet what is due me is in the LORD's hand, and my reward is with my God."
5 And now the LORD says-- he who formed me in the womb to be his servant to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel to himself, for I am honored in the eyes of the LORD and my God has been my strength—

You have been hidden but now you will arise.  It is time to forgive those who did not mentor you.  It is time to forgive those who have not handed you the keys to lead.  It is time to forgive those who allowed abortion to steal 1/3 of your brothers and sisters.

It is time to throw off the rejection that you feel from being the latchkey generation.  It is time to set aside the MTV and “television family” that raised you.  For you already know that they were a fraud.

It is time to find your voice and begin to use it.  Do you know how to get around the glass ceiling that has kept you down for so long?  Get another ladder.  It is time to climb the ladder that God is giving us.  And time to stop using the step stool our parents insisted that we use to climb to maturity.

We need both generations on either side of us.  We are not more important than either one.  But they need us more than they know.  They are incomplete without Generation X.  We are the bridge builders and it is time that we started building that bridge!

Just like when Moses led the children of Israel out of slavery and bondage, you will lead the Boomers out of the prison of religion they have created for themselves.  You will also bring balance to the Millennials as they have more zeal than knowledge.  Your wisdom will keep them from drowning in a sea of unsanctified grace.

Neither generation is going to be happy about it.  Some will complain, others will rebel.  All the while we will be facing the pride of Pharaoh (the ruler of this world) who does not want to let God’s people go.  But just as the Lord protected Moses, He will also protect us.

Speak the truth boldly and in love.  Declare freedom to those who are in bondage. Walk in grace.  Speak with wisdom and tact.

No longer let the glass ceiling keep you from doing something that you KNOW you were created for.  If you have to – find a new ladder.

Generation X, we are not powerless.  We are powerful because, we have learned everything that we needed to learn while on the backside of the desert.  God has been with us the past 40 years and He has been the overseer of our spiritual education.  The Pharaoh of this world may have tried to take us out with abortion – but we have witnessed that once before and we know how the story ends.

We will follow the cloud and the fire like Moses did.  We will trust God to make a way in the desert.  We will make our way to the Promised Land, the one that is built on the foundation of Jesus Christ.  Great storms are coming but so is Revival.  It is time to follow the Great I AM into the Great Unknown.

Generation X it is time to lead.

There is a Loophole in the Bible You Need to Know About

Did you know there is a loophole in the Bible?

It is one of the most powerful weapons that we are
given in the word of God and yet I hardly hear anyone teach on this specific verse.

It is the power to ask God to forgive someone else’s sins.

Are you surprised by that?

Yes!  We are given the power to ask God to forgive a brother or sister’s sin.

1 John 5:16 If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray and God will give him life.

If I see a brother commit a sin… I can pray and God will give him life.

The only exception to this loophole is that we are not
allowed to pray for people whose sin leads to death which is to blaspheme the Holy Spirit – or speak evil of the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 12:31-32, Mark 3:28-30, Luke 12:10)

When we ask for God’s forgiveness over a person it clears up the darkness around them and they can hear the Lord for themselves.  It brings them enough “LIFE” so that they can see and hear clearly to repent to the Lord.

See… it’s a loophole:  the opportunity to set someone free by bringing the forgiveness of God to them even though they didn’t ask for it themselves.

Look at how this Kingdom principle is played out in the Word of God.

I give you this example of Jesus forgiving sins while on the cross:  When Jesus said “Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing.”  He untied the darkness around the people who were crucifying Him.  Later the forgiveness that was given to the Centurion and his friends caused their eyes to be open and enlightened enough that they could see that there was an earthquake at Jesus’ death.  They could see the innocence of Jesus as he spoke to the thieves on either side of Him.  The Centurion and his friends repented and said “Surely this was the Son of God.”  (Matthew 27:54)

I submit to you that these men never could have seen so clearly and repented if Jesus had not asked the Father to forgive them.

Another example is when Daniel asked for forgiveness in Daniel 9 for all of the sins of his ancestors.  Remember Daniel was only a child when he was carted off to Babylon. So in these verses he is asking forgiveness for sins that are not his.

Daniel 9:4-5 I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed: "O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with all who love him and obey his commands, we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws.

After Daniel prayed this prayer the door was opened and the Israelites were able to return to Jerusalem and begin to rebuild.  Daniel asked forgiveness for his brothers and God gave them LIFE!

The same thing happened when the Aaron sinned against God by building a golden calf.  God was so angry that He wanted to destroy Aaron.  (Deut. 9:20)  Moses asked forgiveness and look and then Aaron repented.  Look at how Aaron went forward from there and established the priesthood.
Moses essentially said “Lord forgive Aaron, for he doesn’t know what he is doing.”  Then LIFE was given to Aaron and his sons.  Whether we understand it or not, we still use the principles of the priesthood of Aaron in the Body of Christ today.

God wants everyone to have abundant LIFE.  Sin separates us from Him and creates a veil over our hearts.  We cannot receive LIFE if we are covered in sin.  Having another person ask God for forgiveness on our behalf is an awesome tool for God to give us LIFE.  When we stand on 1 John 5:16 to forgive another person it usually leads to repentance as evidenced by the previous scriptures.

Personally, my prayer team has seen this happen often.  We have prayed for God to forgive someone, the veil has fallen from their mind and they have repented.  Specifically I remember praying for a little boy who was adopted.  Year after year the little boy would not receive Jesus into his heart.

When I sat down to pray with his mother, the Holy Spirit prompted us to pray for forgiveness for some witchcraft that his birth father had been involved in.  That very night the mother called me and said that the boy had accepted Jesus!  WooHoo!

Another time a sister in Christ came against a deliverance ministry that we were starting.  She invited me to her home to tell me how wrong I was in what I was doing.  I was floored at her accusation, because I had so many confirmations from the Lord that we were headed in the right direction.  When I left her house, I immediately heard the Lord say, “Run to the mercy seat on her behalf!”  So I immediately began to ask God to give her mercy and I asked Him to forgive her for coming against us.

A few months later I was sharing with a mutual friend what happened when I visited her home and how God implored me to forgive her and to ask for mercy for her.  My friend’s eyes got really wide and she said, “Tisha, I can’t tell you exactly what happened.  But I want you to know that I was there when the Lord had mercy on her just a few weeks ago!”  The Lord brought her to repentance.  But I had to activate the loophole of asking forgiveness for her because she had no idea that she was in sin.

1 John 5:16 really works.  If you see a brother or sister sinning – ask God to forgive them and then ask God to give them LIFE.  You never know you might bring an entire generational line into the Kingdom!

Revival Won't Come Without the Synergy of the Generations

Today at church we sang the song “Hosanna” by Hillsong United.

Here is a verse from the song:

I see a generation, Rising up to take their place

With selfless faith, selfless faith

I see a near revival, Stirring as we pray and seek

We're on our knees, we're on our knees

My heart was pricked as we sang it.  I felt the Lord infuse my heart with these words, “I need ALL of the generations to take their place for this revival to happen.”

God needs for all three (and soon four) generations to unite together in unity.  He wants to pour out a revival of the ages but it does not rest with one generation.  It is the one accord of the generations in the Church that will birth revival fire.

(For reference here are the loosely determined definitions of each generation. Boomers: Born ‘45-‘65 Generation X: Born ’65-’85 Generation Y (Millennials): Born 85’- 05’ Generation Z: ’05-present)

He needs the Boomer Generation to rise up and take their place with

the sage wisdom that they have. He needs Boomers to begin pouring out like never before.  They have been a witness to decades of good and bad in the Church.  They have a wisdom that is necessary for the administration of this coming revival.  Up to this point few of them have discipled the next generation, or if they have discipled them they have refused to hand over the keys.  This must begin to happen to see a synergy happen between generations.  It is not too late.  If you are part of the Boomer Generation, ask the Holy Spirit for a spiritual son or daughter to mentor with the intention of handing them the authority to lead.  Remember, they won’t lead the way your generation did so be careful not to reject them when they put your wisdom into a new language for their own peers.

God needs Generation X to rise up from its trauma.  I recently asked the Lord why Generation X is asleep and He said to me “Generation X is not asleep, they are traumatized.”  If you are part of Generation X, whether or not you are aware of it… abortion has taken a toll on you. (Abortion was legalized in 1973.)  You can feel the absence of ONE-THIRD of your generation.  (Yes I said ONE-THIRD!)  This generation was the first latch key generation, where both parents worked and the kids came home to an empty house. The previous generation has also rejected you as you have hit your head on a glass ceiling refusing to hand you the authority to lead.  Generation X feels expendable.  But the Lord would say, “X MARKS THE SPOT!”  He needs for Generation X to forgive both the Greatest Generation for abortion and the Boomers for not trusting you to lead.  God calls Generation X the Moses Generation.  You have spent your 40 years on the back side of the desert.  It is time to forgive those who tried to keep you down, find your voice, stand up and lead my people out of bondage!  Rise up Generation X and lead!

Generation Y (Millennials) You are called to be on the front lines of this revival.  You will have the voice of a trumpet and you will be the feet of God's Army that will GO and MAKE DISCIPLES.  Your faith will be a wonder to behold.  The miracles that God will pour out in your time on earth will be an awesome thing to witness.  The one thing that Millennials can do to bring the generations together is to listen closely to the previous generations.  You can save yourself a lot of pain and suffering if you will not reject what the Boomers and Generation X are trying to tell you.  Some of you have bought the lie that you are the only generation that matters, this is not how God’s Kingdom works.  The Millennial perspective will be quite valuable in the coming days, but they will have to learn to love the wisdom of the previous generations in order for true unity to come.

If each generation will forgive the other generations, if each generation will consider the others better than themselves, if each generation will be satisfied to function in their part of the body then UNITY WILL BEGET THE SYNERGY OF REVIVAL!

God works through the entire Body of Christ and that Body will hold Boomers, Gen Xers and Millennials and we WILL FIND A WAY TO INCLUDE GENERATION Z!  We will not reject the next generations.  We WILL raise them up!  We will not leave them fatherless!

I call to every generation to take your place, for the ‘near’ revival is now upon us!

Breaking Generational Curses - Victorious Prayer Tool Box

Exodus 20:4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand [generations] of those who love me and keep my commandments.

When we worship idols such as 'lust', 'hatred', 'witchcraft', 'fear', etc. that sin is passed down to the third and fourth generation.  If it is not broken
by applying the forgiveness of the cross to the sin the cycle repeats.

It is very easy to recognize sins that are generational because the previous and/or subsequent generations struggle with the same strongholds:  worry, lust, fear, etc.

In my experience, generational sins come from only blood relatives.  I am adopted.  Every generational sin that I have had to break off has originated from my natural mother and father, not my adoptive parents.  In 16 years of my Journey to Wholeness, the Holy Spirit has never pointed toward the sins of my adoptive parents, it has always been my generational blood line.

Generational curses are lined out in Leviticus 26:40-42  “If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary to me...I will remember my covenant with Jacob and my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land."

In Daniel 9, Daniel prays for the generational sin of his forefathers.  As he prays he identifies with the sinfulness of past generations and even though he was just a boy when those sins were committed he uses the phrase "we have sinned and done wrong."

Other verses about how generational curses are formed: Isaiah 53:4-5, Exodus 20:3-5,  Psalm 31:10, Matthew 24:12-13.  Go HERE to read a more in depth understanding about generational curses.

It is quite easy, because of the blood of Christ, to break a generational sin.
Following the Repent - Rebuke - Replace method is easy to use and easy to remember. Whenever you recognize a generational sin simply pray this prayer in faith and it will be broken..  I have posted a list of common generational curses below.

Helpful Hint:  You need to be as specific as possible.  Do not shoot a shotgun prayer over generations sins.  Use a sniper rifle instead and be specific.  Scroll down - the tool is after the list of curses...
